Main Street: At the Heart of the Community

Heritage Week will run from February 16 to February 22, 2015.  The national theme "Main Street: At the Heart of the Community" celebrates the social and economic history that makes a community's downtown or Main Street, an integral part of a community's past, a vibrant part of the present, and a significant resource to preserve and promote for the future.

Heritage Canada has a great list of suggested activities to celebrate Heritage Week in your community. Click here for Heritage Canada information.

Look for more information about Heritage Week 2015 on Heritage BC's website.

Vancouver Heritage Action Plan

In June, the City of Vancouver put in place interim policies that aim to reduce demolition of heritage and character homes while a full review of the City’s Heritage Conservation Program is undertaken.

Some homeowners have expressed concern about what this means for their property. Vancouver Heritage Foundation has created a new page on their website that explains the interim measures currently in place, and addresses the assertion that renovating a home is more costly than building new.

Please click here to find out more about the policies and the Heritage Action Plan process now underway.
