CHINESE HISTORICAL PLACES PROJECT

Nominate a Historic Place!

Do you know a historic place associated with the history of the Chinese community in British Columbia that is important to you or your community?

The Chinese Historic Places Recognition Project is an outcome of the Chinese Historical Wrongs Consultation, where many participants expressed the hope that Chinese Canadian cultural history could be preserved in perpetuity.

The Ministry of International Trade (MIT), Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations (MFLNRO), and the Legacy Initiatives Advisory Council (LIAC) are seeking nominations from the public for historic places with connections to the heritage of B.C's Chinese community.

*The Deadline for Nominations is February 20, 2015*

50/50 Fundraising Event

Thanks to everyone who attended our 50/50 Fundraising Event on Wednesday, December 10, 2014.  With over 40 guests in attendance, we enjoyed an evening of cocktails, appetizers and live jazz, not to mention a welcome address from Minister Steve Thomson of the Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations!

We raised approx. $6,500 towards Heritage BC programs and the Heritage Legacy Fund combined, and on behalf of the staff and Board of Directors of Heritage BC, THANK YOU for your generous support.

Heritage BC's newest Board member, Gord Macdonald of Macdonald & Lawrence Timber Framing Ltd, has just returned from the Antarctic where he was involved in the saving of the Scott's and Shackleton's huts, as part of the Ross Sea Heritage Restoration Project.

This Antarctic summer has seen the completion of the major conservation work on Captain Scott’s historic buildings and the artefact collections at both Cape Evans and Hut Point.
