World Wars Monuments and Memorials Map goes live!

Across Canada there are over 6,000 monuments and memorials dedicated to Canada's war dead as the First and Second World Wars touched nearly every community in Canada, big or small. In November 2015, Heritage BC started to seek help from the public to collect information about World War monuments and memorials in communities across British Columbia. Submissions sharing stories, heritage and history came from all over the province. Commemoration came not only as cenotaphs but as trees, mountains and even aircraft! Over 190 submissions are now represented on the World Wars Monuments and Memorials Map, with over 100 still being processed for posting in April 2016.

This project is funded in part through the Department of Canadian Heritage's World War Commemorations Community Fund, the Heritage Legacy Fund and generous in-kind support from SplitMango.
