The City of Coquitlam is offering an exciting opportunity for an individual interested in the archival field to join a dynamic team. Reporting to the City Archivist, the responsibilities of this position will include assisting the City Archivist with a variety of tasks such as: appraising, arranging and describing archival records; processing accessions and rehousing archival materials; conducting research; providing information and reference services to City staff, elected officials and members of the public; ensuring compliance with all relevant copyright and privacy legislation; inputting information into the City’s Online Search Portal (Quest); facilitating the transfer of City records to the Archives; and assisting with outreach initiatives such as presentations, exhibitions, and social media. In the future, this position will assist with digital preservation initiatives, including ingest, integrity checks, migration, and dissemination. On an as needed basis this position may provide relief for the supervisor.
Along with possessing excellent communication skills, understanding of the legislation, standards and policies that govern the work, the preferred candidate will have a Master’s Degree in Archival Science or Information Studies (or will have recently completed the final requirements of their degree) or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Familiarity with the Rules for Archival Description (RAD), AtoM archival management software, OpenText e-DOCS software suite, website content management systems, and The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Copyright Act as it relates to the work is preferred. Ability to accommodate occasional work outside regular office work hours for events will be required.
