The mission of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture is to integrate the job creating capacity of the tourism sector with the vibrant arts, culture and sport sector to promote British Columbia for residents, visitors and investors. The ministry’s work supports welcoming, inclusive communities that value diversity and broad opportunities for participation in sports, cultural activities and the arts.
Within the ministry, the BC Arts Council (BCAC) nurtures and supports arts and cultural activity in communities across British Columbia. Taking direction from BCAC strategic plan, New Foundations 2018-2022, the BCAC supports a range of artistic disciplines and activities while engaging with the sector and Indigenous artists and communities to inform policies and programs.
Program Officers directly support BC’s artists and practitioners working in specific and interrelated disciplines including dance, media arts, publishing, literary arts, creative writing, theatre, performance art, music, museums, community-engaged arts, visual arts, arts administration, arts training and not-for-profit sustainability. The position implements and evaluates funding programs and works on policy development projects and public education/outreach initiatives in support of the strategic directions of the BCAC, Ministry and Government.
