Position Title: Virtual Program Facilitator
Reports to: Collections Manager
Position Type: 7 hours/day, 5 days/week
Duration of Position: May 24th through August 20th, 2021.

We are looking for an indigenous person who can assist our team with digital program development, cultural resource management, and heritage interpretation.
Reporting to the Collections Manager, and in collaboration with the Society’s team, the Digital Programs Facilitator will learn how to research local Indigenous heritage, and interpret it in a digital format. The incumbent will also be trained in basic artifact collections care and digital records management. Planning for these offerings will involve consultation with members of local First Nations bands and other local community members, School District #34, Fraser Valley Regional Library staff, and Society volunteers. The incumbent will also be able to participate in the day to day running of the Heritage Site. This entails tasks such as answering the phones, greeting visitors, site maintenance and more hands on collections care. No two days are the same, as our day to day activities include working with not just a range of people, but with a variety of media and artifact categories.
The Society’s Collections Manager, along with our Board and staff team, will share their wealth of knowledge and experience with you, guide you and lend support as you hone your skills in digital curatorial work.
As this is a Sto:lo Aboriginal Skills & Employment Training (SASET) funded position, candidates must meet the following SASET criteria:
- Must be First Nations/Inuit, status/non-status, reside on or off reserve, within SASET catchment area
- Should be minimal 15 years of age and returning to school
- Secondary and post-secondary students must be registered full-time students during previous academic year and intend to return to full-time studies in the following academic year
- Must have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of the program.
Due to the fact that this is position that involves working with children, a criminal records check is required.
A valid Driver’s license and/or access to a vehicle or driver is a requirement.
Desired Skills, Personal Competencies and Qualifications:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work independently under supervision
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of team
- Experience working as a volunteer is an asset, as are supervisory skills
- Ability to answer questions clearly and concisely
