Vancouver Heritage Foundation – Grant Programs Assistant (YCW)

Posted on April 14, 2022 by Kirstin

Do you have a passion for sustainability and climate action as well as a love of history and heritage places? Would you like to gain experience in data analysis, research, communications, and sustainability initiatives? If so, then a summer placement as the Grant Programs Assistant at Vancouver Heritage Foundation is for you.

Vancouver Heritage Foundation promotes the appreciation and conservation of Vancouver’s historic places through public awareness, education and granting programs. As part of our focus on sustainability, we provide significant financial support to homeowners to conduct deep energy retrofits that help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in character homes across the city.

Vancouver Heritage Foundation is seeking a current post-secondary student in environmental studies, engineering, geography, energy management, architecture, or a related discipline to join our team this summer between May and August in a full-time capacity.

You will help to create key resources that raise awareness of VHF’s sustainability efforts through the Heritage Energy Retrofit Grant Program and the benefits of deep energy retrofits for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. You will have the opportunity to conduct research, perform data analysis, create data visualizations, and to design and write energy retrofit case studies that will raise awareness of the environmental benefits of retrofitting existing buildings.

We are keen to hear from candidates with skills and experience relevant to the role, including:

• Current post-secondary student in environmental studies, engineering, geography, energy management, architecture, or a related field

• Interest in sustainability practices and climate action

• Ability to analyze and synthesize data

• Strong research and writing skills for the purpose of conveying information to the public

• Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office

• Excellent organizational skills that include adherence to timelines and accurate recordkeeping

• Ability to work independently and remotely

• Ability to work collaboratively with a team

• Graphic design experience would be an asset

As this position is partly funded by the Young Canada Works Summer Student program, the Grant Programs Assistant must meet the following criteria:

• Full-time student during the most recent semester (high school, college, CEGEP or university)

• Aged 16 – 30 years old at the start of employment

• Continuing his/her studies in the 2022-2023 academic year

• Intends to return to full-time studies in the semester following the work assignment

• Canadian citizen, permanent resident or has refugee status in Canada

• Legally entitled to work in Canada.

• Will not have another full-time job (over 30 hours a week) during the assignment

The role will be full time for 12 weeks (total of 450 hours) between May and August. We are offering compensation of $16/hour plus vacation pay.

To apply, please send your resume and a cover letter to:

Meghan Lenz, Grant Programs Manager: [email protected]

Applications close on May 2, 2022, at 5pm (PST).

Please note that only applicants selected for an interview will be contacted.

Vancouver Heritage Foundation (VHF) is a registered charity that promotes the appreciation and conservation of heritage places in Vancouver. VHF does this by creating opportunities and resources to learn about Vancouver’s history and diverse heritage places and by providing practical support for the successful conservation of historic buildings and sites.
