Submit nomination to Heritage BC Watch List
The Heritage BC Watch List is a catalyst to draw attention to the conditions of sites and places of value and significance to the historic and cultural fabric of British Columbia.
The Watch List aims to stimulate awareness and conversation, foster protection and engagement, and to encourage action for improved preservation and conservation. The Watch List will identify the susceptibilities and vulnerabilities of sites that strongly contribute to the identity and story of the local community and place and contribute to the legacy of British Columbia.
Focusing on the potential risks to material fabric and intangible heritage, the Watch List will bring attention to constant and wide-ranging challenges for heritage conservation, while providing a local advocacy tool as a call to action for sites that matter.
The Watch List is not a permanent designation and is not a reflection of poor supervision or stewardship. Ultimately, the Watch List aims to stimulate better practices of management, conservation and risk preparedness to preserve BC’s historic legacy for future generations.
Heritage BC recognizes heritage as a “broad concept and includes the natural as well as the cultural environment. It encompasses landscapes, historic places, sites and built environments, as well as bio-diversity, collections, past and continuing cultural practices, knowledge and living experiences.” (ICOMOS)
