DESCRIPTION:Description of program:  \nGather the family and explore how the contributions of many different peoples have shaped the food we eat today. Burnaby’s food culture has changed over time. This guided tour celebrates food as a form of heritage; touching on Indigenous food systems\, early settlement & farming to urbanization and how immigration led to change and adaptation of food practices. Celebrate Family Day and BC Heritage Week at the Burnaby Village Museum. Although the full museum site\, cafe & carousel will not be open\, come and explore the museum on aa fascinating\, guided tour\, and experience how food brings us together. Family friendly activities & crafts are planned. \nRecommendation & notices:  \nFamilies. Recommended for children over 5 years. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The tour will take place outdoors as well as in several indoor & covered spaces. \nTimes:  \n10am – 11:30am\, 12pm-1:30pm & 2pm-3:30pm. \nPlease arrive at the museum’s main entrance off Canada Way and Deer Lake ave.\, at least 10 min before the program is set to begin. Our oceans are full of beautiful\, strange\, and interesting fish\, and canning is only one of the ways that people from all around the world have turned them into tasty meals. \nBring your family to revisit a classic movie in the Cannery’s historic Boiler House Theatre! Join us for a screening of Finding Nemo\, on Monday\, February 16th\, then visit the Cannery to compare the fish from the movie to those that live in the Pacific Ocean!  \nMonday\, February 16th\, 2026 – Finding Nemo screenings: $5 /person. Youth (<18) must be accompanied by an adult.  \nThis year we have an exciting add-on option—join us for a screening of “Finding Nemo” inside our Cannery Boiler House Theatre and experience the fishy fun of this family film. DESCRIPTION:Join the Richmond Heritage Commission in celebrating BC ‘s Heritage Week\, February 16-22\, by connecting to Richmond’s past and exploring the many layers and unique stories of Richmond. This year’s theme of Stir the Pot celebrates the connections of food and heritage. \nStop by the Commission’s interactive exhibition at the Richmond Children’s Arts Festival to discover local history and heritage through displays and hands-on activities. There will be photos and maps as well as mini activities for children\, including colourizing black and white historic photos and matching wooden block puzzle pieces to complete historic landmarks. Members of the Heritage Commission and the Friends of the Richmond Archives will be on hand to share some fun and fascinating history facts for all ages. \nThe Richmond Heritage Commission has six members appointed by City Council. The Commission provides advice to Council on heritage conservation and undertakes and supports activities that benefit heritage in Richmond. The Friends of the Richmond Archives support the work of the City of Richmond Archives and promote the preservation and understanding of Richmond’s history.

DESCRIPTION:An open invitation to the people of Salt Spring Island and beyond to learn about the impact of agriculture on our island’s history and traditions\, to discover the forgotten stories of the various people\, families and communities\, their amazing food harvests\, and to discuss contemporary food security\, who we are and where we come from. \nIn recognition of this year’s theme Stir the Pot\, we invite islanders and visitors to find out What’s in the Pot?  and explore what they know about the history of production of food on Salt Spring Island. What’s in the Pot? seeks to fill some of the gaps in local knowledge and identity. \nThe event will be held daily from 11am to 3pm\, from Monday\, February 16 to Sunday\, February 22 at the Salt Spring Museum on the grounds of the Salt Spring Island Farmers’ Institute on Rainbow Road. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Tuesday\, February 17th at 2pm for a special guest presentation on “The Summerland Research and Development Centre: A History of Change” by Jesse MacDonald and Kelly Pagliocchini. \nThis presentation will provide a brief overview of the history of the Summerland Research and Development Centre\, historical achievements\, and changing focuses through time. Join us to learn about the Research Centre’s current and past research projects\, including the legacy apple and cherry breeding programs\, pest management\, and a renewed focus on climate resiliency. \nAbout our Presenters: \nJesse MacDonald was raised on a fruit farm in Summerland\, BC\, where his family first moved in 1919. He has a background in plant pathology and pest management\, and returned home when he had an opportunity to work as a biologist at the Summerland Research and Development Centre on a diverse range of scientific initiatives\, and includes a role as the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Officer. \nKelly Pagliocchini owns a local fruit farm with her husband in Summerland\, where she has lived since 1993. She started her career at the Summerland Research and Development Centre in 2021 as a member of the field crew and now holds the position of Executive Assistant to the Associate Director\, where she became fascinated with the history of the Centre and can often be found digging through boxes of historical documents on her breaks. \nEntry to this event is by-donation. DESCRIPTION:An open invitation to the people of Salt Spring Island and beyond to learn about the impact of agriculture on our island’s history and traditions\, to discover the forgotten stories of the various people\, families and communities\, their amazing food harvests\, and to discuss contemporary food security\, who we are and where we come from. \nIn recognition of this year’s theme Stir the Pot\, we invite islanders and visitors to find out What’s in the Pot?  and explore what they know about the history of production of food on Salt Spring Island. What’s in the Pot? seeks to fill some of the gaps in local knowledge and identity. \nThe event will be held daily from 11am to 3pm\, from Monday\, February 16 to Sunday\, February 22 at the Salt Spring Museum on the grounds of the Salt Spring Island Farmers’ Institute on Rainbow Road.
