This commemorative plaque is situated in the gardens of Government House in Victoria, near the Rockland-Joan Crescent entrance. It commemorates Sir Henri-Gustave Joly de Lotbinière, Lieutenant Governor of British Columbia from 1900 to 1906.
This place is valued for its association with France-born Joly de Lotbinière, who in the course of his career, was a lawyer, a seigneur and a politician. He was the last lieutenant governor in Canada to dismiss an incumbent premier.
