Located in southern Vancouver Island, Deloume Road in Mill Bay is named after and valued for its association with Jean Baptiste Deloume and the Deloume family, which came to settle in British Columbia from France, in 1892. The road itself was traced and cleared by Deloume’s sons in the late 1890s. This rural road marks the place where several early farms were, as part of the Roman Catholic St-François-Xavier’s parish.
The Deloume family was responsible for clearing and farming land, and are attributed to having planted the first vineyard in the area.
