Patenaude jewelry building, 366 Baker Street, Nelson

Located at 366 Baker Street, Nelson, this building is valued for its association with Joseph Ovila Patenaude, originally from Iberville, Quebec. Patenaude opened an optometry office in Nelson in 1897 and a few years later, opened a jewelry, watchmaking and repair workshop. As one of Nelson’s early non-Indigenous settlers, he was associated with its economic development, and known for his philanthropy and donations to Selkirk College where Patenaude Hall now exists.
