Kirstin Clausen Retiring as Executive Director of Heritage BC
On behalf of the Board of Directors of Heritage BC, I’m sharing the news that Kirstin Clausen will be retiring from her role as Executive Director, marking an important milestone in a long and impactful career in the heritage sector.
Kirstin joined Heritage BC following a distinguished 20-year tenure as Executive Director of the Britannia Mine Museum, where she built a strong reputation as a thoughtful, empathetic leader and a passionate advocate for heritage in all its forms. Across her career, she has consistently championed both built and intangible heritage, recognizing the deep connections between place, story, and community. Her accomplishments are many, including recognition as a recipient of both the BCMA Award of Merit and the CMA Distinguished Service Award.
During her time at Heritage BC, Kirstin has led the organization with integrity, care and a steady commitment to its mission. She has strengthened Heritage BC’s role as a trusted provincial voice, supporting community-based heritage work and fostering meaningful relationships across the sector. Her leadership has helped advance important conversations about conservation, interpretation, and the evolving role of heritage in British Columbia. She has forged relationships with both the Heritage Branch of the provincial government and the National Heritage Trust ensuring BC Heritage is a leading voice for Canada’s Heritage.
Kirstin is widely respected for her empathetic leadership style and her ability to balance strategic thinking with a genuine care for people. Staff, partners, volunteers and board members alike have benefited from her deep knowledge of the field and her collaborative approach.
