Heritage New West (HNW) invites the community to its 2025 AGM and vintage live fashion show, “From Rationing to Ravishing: The Transformation of Women’s Clothing from WWII to the Postwar Era,” on Saturday, February 22, 2025, 2-4 PM at The Sanctuary on Sixth (207 6th Street, New Westminster). Doors open at 1:30 PM. Admission is free (ages 16+), and seating is first-come, first-served – donations are welcome.
Following a brief AGM, fashion historian, Ivan Sayers will explore how world events shape fashion, showcasing haute couture and Vancouver-made clothing. Five models will wear wartime and postwar pieces, including a wedding dress, Boeing Vancouver overalls, and a Switlik parachute factory coat. The show highlights the shift from practical wartime attire to Dior’s “New Look” and postwar luxury.
This event also launches HNW’s observance of the 80th anniversary of D-Day and sets the stage for the 43rd Annual Heritage Homes Tour on May 25, 2025, that will include some WWII-era homes and the soldiers who lived there.
The Sanctuary on Sixth (formerly the United Church on Queens), may soon face demolition, making this a special opportunity to celebrate history and community.
