Find Heritage Week Events
All week on February 17 -23, 2025, culture and heritage organizations across the province are going to be hosting events to celebrate Heritage Week.
Use our Heritage Week Calendar to find events. Filter by cost, location, kid-friendly, virtual and more!
To celebrate Heritage Week, we will be exploring our new historic signage trail and welcome you to join us! One day during the week we will be offering a cross-country ski tour and the other day will be a snowshoe tour. Obviously if our ‘winter’ continues to warm up, these could become walking tours!
The 10.30am meeting point will be at the K&S Station in Sandon, which is used as a warming shelter through the winter months. This is a great spot to enjoy a picnic lunch after the tour and stay cosy by the woodburner! The K&S Station is very easy to find; head along highway 31a from Kaslo or New Denver and follow the signs at the Sandon turn-off. The road in is appr. 6kms; as you reach the start of the townsite, stay left – do not cross the bridge on the right. The K&S Station is the first building you will see on your left as you continue up the hill.
The historic signage project is a collaboration between the Sandon Historical Society and the North Slocan Trails Society. 12 new signs are going up along the K&S trail and the Cody Spur trail to share the fascinating history of Sandon. They include the Methodist Church, the New York Brewery and the Last Chance Tramway.
Please bring your own cross-country skis, snowshoes and any refreshments. You will be accompanied by a volunteer who will point out heritage sites and the new signage along the route and answer any questions you may have about Sandon. The tour will take roughly two hours depending on stops and will return you back to your starting point.
