For the past year, in response to BC’s Bill-44 density changes for residential neighbourhoods, municipalities have been adapting and innovating to incorporate new policies into their community plans. We heard from communities across the province that they supported the increase of housing supply, but were unsure how this would impact neighbourhoods with many historic buildings that can feel especially vulnerable to sweeping changes and demolitions.
Heritage BC will be exploring what future planning looks like in our heritage neighbourhoods through dedicated webinar discussions. What role can historic neighbourhoods play in meeting the demand for increased housing? How do we keep the unique character and sense of place that makes them special, and ensure they are welcoming and affordable for residents new and old?
Cost: $15/webinar for non-members, free for Heritage BC members.
Join us on Wednesday, December 11, from 12:00 – 1:00 PM PT to explore how Desired Future Character Statements can help local governments and communities envision and guide neighborhood growth, preserving historic character while allowing for thoughtful development in BC communities.
