Social purpose real estate is property owned and/or operated by mission-driven organizations for the purpose of community benefits. In BC, the lack of affordability in the real estate market can make it challenging for non-for-profits and other community centered organizations to find spaces to exist. This webinar introduces social purpose real estate, and discusses the role that Heritage could play in addressing this issue through partnerships.
Jacqueline Gijssen is the Project Director and a founding member of the Social Purpose Real Estate Collaborative (SPRE), an informal collective of funders and investors seeks to assist mission based non-profit and social enterprise organizations with their real estate needs. Prior to joining SPRE, Jacqueline served as the City of Vancouver’s Senior Planner for Cultural Spaces.
Jennifer Johnstone is the CEO/President of Central City Foundation, a funding organization that provides supports and addresses barriers, to build a resilient, caring and inclusive community where it is possible for all people to overcome injustice, participate and thrive. She is a leader in non-profit management and community resource development. She is also a founding member at the SPRE.
