150 Time Immemorial Grant Program

On July 30, 2021, the Province of BC announced a $30-million 150 Time Immemorial Grant Program to be administered by the First Peoples’ Cultural Foundation and Heritage BC.

About the funding

Heritage BC is managing a funding envelope of $10-million to support reconciliation, learning, diversity, inclusivity, and resiliency through cultural heritage infrastructure, awareness, and planning. The application submission and jury process were finalized in February 2022, and all applicants have been informed of the final decisions. They will be working on their projects in the upcoming years with the final projects completing in July 2024.

The program will ultimately support projects in 54 communities in every region of the Province. There is a total of 92 projects with 16 in the Nechako, North Coast, North East and Cariboo regions; 25 projects on Vancouver Island; 32 projects in the Mainland Southwest; 7 projects in the Kootenays and 12 projects in the Thomson Okanagan. These include projects from several cultural groups and communities including Chinese, Japanese, Filipino, South Asian, those of black descent and those from 2SLGBTQ+ communities.

As an organization of provincial scope, Heritage BC recognizes that its members, and the local history and heritage they seek to preserve, occupy the lands and territories of B.C.’s Indigenous peoples. Heritage BC asks its members and everyone working in the heritage sector to reflect on the places where they reside and work, and to respect the diversity of cultures and experiences that form the richness of our provincial heritage.
