Cultural Map Classroom Resources

Teaching British Columbia’s Multicultural History

Use Heritage BC’s community-sourced cultural maps in your classroom! Heritage BC has launched brand new lesson plans and activities for students from grades 1 – 7 that can be used in your classroom to engage students with the popular online maps.

Mapping My Community Lesson Plan

The Mapping My Community (grades 1 – 3) lesson plan offers students a chance to reflect on the places that make their community unique and special. Each lesson plan comes with an outline, a slide deck, a ready-to-print worksheet and an assessment of learning.

Thank you to the First People’s Map of B.C. team at the First People’s Cultural Council who provided feedback on the lesson plans that included their map. We are excited to be including this incredible resource in our Mapping the Multicultural Province unit and our Mapping My Community lesson plan.

We are also deeply grateful to the teachers who generously shared their expertise and provided feedback throughout the development process. A special thank you to the Provincial Heritage Branch for their guidance and contributions in shaping this classroom resource.

As an organization of provincial scope, Heritage BC recognizes that its members, and the local history and heritage they seek to preserve, occupy the lands and territories of B.C.’s Indigenous peoples. Heritage BC asks its members and everyone working in the heritage sector to reflect on the places where they reside and work, and to respect the diversity of cultures and experiences that form the richness of our provincial heritage.
