Every year Heritage BC marks Heritage Week with a poster that is sent throughout the province to libraries, schools, municipal offices and politicians. We encourage everyone in the heritage sector to participate in Heritage Week by organizing an event that showcases local heritage and involves the public. In BC, Heritage Week is the third full week in February.
BC Museums Week is the annual celebration of museums, art galleries, historic sites, cultural centres, and other memory institutions in BC. The week is held annually in May, providing an opportunity for British Columbians to celebrate the vital role museums play in their communities, economy and education.
Every year since 1977 International Museum Day is organized worldwide around May 18.
Since 1983, ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) has declared April 18 to be International Day for Monuments and Sites. This celebration day was first approved by UNESCO at its 22nd General Conference.
Held in July, participating sites receive national exposure and access to resources for organizing events and attracting new audiences.
