Heritage Week is important because it is a chance for us to highlight the value and importance of the heritage places and the history of our community. We encourage everyone to get involved and advocate for heritage every day, not just during Heritage Week.
Get your community excited about Heritage Week by putting up posters, and sharing our Heritage Week images on social media.

Every year, the Province of BC and municipalities across the province, make proclamations declaring the celebration of Heritage Week. This is important, because it shows local communities that your civic leaders value heritage conservation – for both intangible and tangible heritage.
These proclamations are documents that Heritage BC leverages to demonstrate the value of Heritage to the Province when we communicate with them about the need for financial and political support for heritage conservation.
In 2023, 13 municipal governments made proclamations for Heritage Week. This year, we aim to make even more!
Use our template to ask your local government to make a Heritage Week Proclamation:
All week on February 19 – 25, 2024, culture and heritage organizations across the province are going to be hosting events to celebrate Heritage Week.
Check our All Events Calendar regularly in January and February as it gets updated with events.
