    Special Heritage Tour to Hat Creek Ranch & McAbee Fossil Beds

    Hat Creek Tour

    We’re thrilled to share a special bonus heritage tour to Hat Creek Ranch and the McAbee Fossil Beds is being offered right after our conference on Saturday, May 24! 🌟

    Hat Creek Ranch is hosting a full-day tour that includes a guided visit to their historic site, a catered cultural lunch, and an excursion to explore the McAbee Fossil Beds. This experience promises to be a unique opportunity to connect more deeply with the land, its people, and the stories that make the Tk̓emlúps (Kamloops) region so special.

    This tour is organized by Hat Creek Ranch and is a different activity from the Heritage BC Conference, so cost and registration are handled separately.

    The tour is open to everyone – no conference registration required! So whether you’re a curious local or looking to enhance your conference experience, this tour will undoubtedly be immersive and powerful.

     

    Tour Details

    Date: Saturday, May 24, 2025
    Time: 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM
    Cost: $110 + tax (includes guided tours, lunch, snacks, and refreshments, bus to/from Kamloops)

     

    Highlights

    Explore and Dine at Historic Hat Creek Ranch

    • Welcome by the St’uxwtews Pesuten Heritage Society
    • Guided interpretive tour through heritage buildings, Indigenous exhibits, and restored stagecoach route
    • Cultural lunch that combines Indigenous and settler influences
    • Informal networking and Q&A with local site stewards

    Visit the McAbee Fossil Beds

    • Guided walk and presentation on the site’s ancient fossils, geological and paleontological significance. 
    • Participate in a discussion around site stewardship, protection and community engagement.

    The tour requires a minimum of 25 participants to run — so please register by May 16! E-invoices will be sent once the registration minimum is met.

     

    Tour Itinerary

    9:00 AM

    • Depart Kamloops (scenic one-hour drive, light refreshments provided)

    10:30 AM

    • Arrive at Historic Hat Creek Ranch
    • Welcome by St’uxwtews Pesuten Heritage Society
    • Overview of the site and its cultural significance
    • Guided interpretive tour of the heritage buildings, Indigenous exhibits, and restored stagecoach route. 

    12:00 PM

    • Locally-inspired Indigenous and settler-style cultural lunch at historic Hat Creek Ranch
    • Informal networking and Q&A with site stewards

    1:30 PM

    • Depart for McAbee Fossil Beds (20-minute bus ride)

    2:00 PM  

    • Arrive at McAbee Fossil Beds
    • Guided walk and presentation of geological and paleontological sites
    • Discussion of site stewardship, protection, and community engagement

    3:30 PM

    • Depart for Kamloops (scenic one-hour drive, light snacks provided)

    4:30 PM

    • Arrive back in Kamloops
