The Clayburn Village Museum will be open Wednesday through Saturday, Feb 21- 24 from 1 pm – 4 pm.
Clayburn is BC’s first company town and many of the homes built for the employees of the original Vancouver Fireclay Company, established in 1905, still exist today. The brick plant evolved into Clayburn Company Ltd and became one of the biggest producers of brick in western Canada. The village grew from its success and the school and church were built for the community. This lead to private enterprises providing the necessities for the workers and their families. The Cooper Seldon Store became the hub of the village and it still operates today as the Clayburn Village Store.
The Clayburn Village Museum is presented by the not-for profit, Clayburn Village Community Society. In the lower level of the Clayburn School at 4315 Wright Street, Abbotsford, there is a railway scale model of the village and brick plant as it was in the 1920’s. The brick industry is represented along with the history of the families that built the community that has been a registered BC Society since 1917.
