About the Webinar
This webinar explores the concept of Intangible Cultural Heritage – also known as Living Heritage – and how it relates to Indigenous heritage in meaningful and practical ways. Participants will gain tools, examples, and approaches they can use right away to recognize, document, and support Indigenous intangible heritage in respectful and community-driven ways.
Designed for heritage practitioners, Indigenous knowledge holders, municipal staff, museum and archive workers, and community advocates, this session covers what intangible cultural heritage is and why it matters, how Indigenous and other communities can use the Living Heritage framework, and the challenges and opportunities created by the lack of legislation in Canada. We will look at case studies that show what Living Heritage work can look like in practice and discuss practical steps for building ethical, reciprocal collaborations with communities. The webinar also offers a helpful checklist of key considerations – such as engagement, permissions, data sovereignty, and continuity – that participants can apply immediately when planning projects or outreach.
