Webinar: Advocacy and Politicians

About the Webinar:

Presented in partnership with the BC Museums Association (BCMA), this panel features three current and former politicians. The panelists answer a series of questions :

  • How often should you be in contact with local politicians, and what should that contact look like when you don’t have events planned to invite them to?
  • Is advocacy more effective coming from groups or individuals? Does it matter that groups represent a politician’s constituency?
  • What is your experience being between the sector and the government when advocating for heritage as a politicians?

About the Presenters:

John Aldag, Former MP, Cloverdale-Langley City, 2015-2019. Previous to this, John spent 32 years working in Parks Canada.

Pamela Madoff, former Councillor, City of Victoria. Pamela sits on Victoria’s Heritage Advisory Panel, and on the Victoria Heritage Foundation’s Board.

Councillor Jaimie McEvoy, City of New Westminster. Jaimie is past president of the New Westminster Heritage Preservation Society, and author of several history books focused on New Westminister.

As an organization of provincial scope, Heritage BC recognizes that its members, and the local history and heritage they seek to preserve, occupy the lands and territories of B.C.’s Indigenous peoples. Heritage BC asks its members and everyone working in the heritage sector to reflect on the places where they reside and work, and to respect the diversity of cultures and experiences that form the richness of our provincial heritage.
