To launch BC Heritage Week 2026, Heritage BC is thrilled to welcome Dr. Linda Peterat and Dr. Gale Smith of the British Columbia Food History Network (BCFHN) for a special online event exploring how food shapes who we are, our communities, and society at large. Founded in 2011, the BCFHN is dedicated to sharing rigorous, academically grounded research on the history of food in British Columbia and Western Canada. A perfect fit for this year’s theme, Stir the Pot!

This virtual kickoff event will also highlight other projects that treat food not just as sustenance, but as a powerful site of advocacy, identity, and connection. “Food is not just what we eat. It is an expression of who we are, how we live, and the world we inhabit.” (Kurlansky, 2007)
